Today, St. Bernards Medical Center officially opened the newly expanded and renovated Heartcare Center, which includes additional lab, surgical and patient-care areas.

Updates were made to all three floors of the Heartcare Center, which is the hub of all heart and vascular services offered to patients at the medical center, from diagnosis to treatment to recovery.

The expansions to the Heartcare Center include the addition of new deluxe labs, bringing the total number to six, as well as expanded and renovated patient and family-focused care areas.

A new hybrid surgical lab has also been added, which allows cardiologists and surgeons to work together and provide an even higher level of care for complicated heart procedures. The renovation also expanded the hospital’s state-of-the-art electrophysiology (EP) facilities.

“At St. Bernards, our focus is always providing the best, most innovative care for our patients and the newly expanded Heartcare Center is an important piece of that experience,” said Chris Barber, president and CEO of St. Bernards Healthcare. “This space allows us to continue our mission of offering Christ-like healing to more patients than ever before and we are excited the renovations are complete.”

The first floor of the Heartcare Center is used for non-invasive cardiac procedures. The second floor houses all invasive services, including a total of six cath and EP labs. The third floor serves as a 30-unit patient prep and recovery area, complete with a brand new family waiting area.

“The renovations to the Heartcare Center keep us on the cutting-edge of cardiovascular and electrophysiology technology, which is absolutely vital for the residents of northeast Arkansas,” said Connie Hill, vice president of heart and cancer services at St. Bernards. “This expanded facility helps us offer the most comprehensive heart and vascular services in this region.”

The Heartcare Center renovation was a $12 million project and is the second phase of St. Bernards Healthcare’s master facility plan, which includes the completed Cancer Center, updates to the Emergency Department and the continued construction of a surgical/intensive care services tower. Together, all of the projects are a $137.5 million investment.

The St. Bernards Heartcare Center offers cardiology, electrophysiology and cardiac, endovascular and thoracic surgical services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For the last three years, the Heartcare Center at St. Bernards is the only facility in the state recognized by the American Heart Association with a Mission: Lifeline Gold-Plus Receiving Award for consistent excellent care of patients experiencing an ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), a very serious type of heart attack.
